Blockchain Researcher, Entrepreneur, Educator, Co-Founder & Managing Partner of Animal Ventures

Bettina Warburg is a leading speaker and researcher on blockchain and emerging technologies. Her distillation of these complex topics continues to be used by university programs, executives, and major conferences as foundational explanations.

In 2016, Warburg was invited by TED to be one the first speakers ever to unpack the topic of blockchain to a global audience. Her collaboration with WIRED magazine to explain blockchain at 5 levels has been viewed by millions of people. Warburg has given talks and helped curate conferences such as World Government Summit, IBM Think, The Business Council, Smart City Expo, Skoll World Forum, Salzburg Global Seminar, Personal Democracy Forum, and numerous universities around the world. Warburg’s work has been cited in publications such as The Atlantic, Center for Public Impact, ICMA.org, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

She is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Warburg Serres Investments, an early stage venture capital fund focused on the decentralization of trade through blockchain and Web 3 technologies. She is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Animal Ventures, an investment advisory firm that builds and invests in tech startups, educates executives, and designs new ways for Fortune 500 companies to commercialize and leverage emergent technologies. These emergent opportunities include technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Additive Manufacturing, and Internet of Things. Animal Ventures has extensive experience in industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, trucking, shipping, logistics, online marketplaces, and fin-tech.

Warburg lectures each semester as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas School of Information in Austin, and is Co-Author of Asset Chains: The Cognitive, Friction-Free, and Blockchain-enabled Future of Supply Chains, as well as the Basics of Blockchain.

Prior to Animal Ventures, Warburg received her MSc from Oxford University and BS from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and developed a keen interest in global governance and cultural diplomacy. As a Public Foresight Strategist at the Institute for the Future, a Silicon Valley think tank, Warburg brought a futures lens to a variety of strategic initiatives with top corporations, foundations, education institutions, and city governments. While at IFTF, she also developed its future of philanthropy and future of governance research practices.
