Beverly Coleman-Miller  

Dr. Beverly Coleman-Miller is an internal medicine physician with a long history of direct patient care.

She is the editorial director of the new journal "Minority Health Today" that is distributed to approximately 10,000 health care professionals who provide medical care to minority patients. The journal is a tool for the provider that serves to improve medical interventions for this unique population.

Prior to this position, Dr. Coleman-Miller served in the city government health commission, delivered health care in small community clinics and large private institutions and delivered care as a registered nurse for 11 years. She has been interviewed extensively in the media, including "60 Minutes" and CNN. She has testified frequently before Congress and has been chosen one of the 25 best African American female physicians in the country.

In 1996, she became a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and works closely with them on a number of initiatives. She lectures and advises at Harvard on a regular basis. She recently assisted in the production of a set of six satellite broadcasts for Harvard that went to 800 cities.

Dr. Coleman-Miller assists the federal government and private foundations in determining the distribution of resources to community-based organizations. She serves on the faculty of the REACH 2010, an initiative aimed at the elimination of the health disparity among minorities, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

She served as a discussant in the White House-sponsored initiative on "Racial Trends in America", which was facilitated by the National Science Foundation. Dr. Coleman-Miller is considered a national expert advisor in the field of minority health. She was invited by the Health Care Finance Administration to present and then publish a paper on her suggestions for research into financing future health disparity interventions.. She served as the moderator in the town meeting for the Health Disparities in the New Millennium Conference for the National Institutes of Health in April 2000.

Dr. Coleman-Miller is a nationally known expert on the issue of youth violence prevention and serves on the faculty for the Violence Against Women Act. She consults with and lectures extensively to universities, health care institutions, federally funded agencies, private industry, community-based organizations, religious institutions, criminal justice agencies, educators and the military. She has just joined the advisory board of a communications arm of the World Bank. She has been appointed by the judiciary as an advisor to the Superior Court of Washington, D.C. in support of recent federal mandates involving placement of children in foster care.

Dr. Coleman-Miller graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a dual degree in nursing and pre-med. She graduated from Temple University School of Medicine.
