Bill Nye

"The Science Guy"; Science Communicator, TV Presenter & Mechanical Engineer; Climate Change Activist

Bill Nye, also known as "Bill Nye the Science Guy," is an American science educator, engineer, television presenter, and author. Born on November 27, 1955, in Washington, D.C., Nye is best known for his engaging and educational science program, Bill Nye the Science Guy, which aired from 1993 to 1998. The show combined humor, experiments, and clear explanations to teach scientific concepts to children and adults alike.

Nye began his entertainment career by performing stand-up comedy while working as an engineer. His comedic talents and passion for science led him to combine the two, creating his "Science Guy" persona. He gained popularity on the Seattle-based comedy show Almost Live!, where he performed humorous science demonstrations.

Nye's hit television show, Bill Nye the Science Guy, won numerous awards, including 19 Emmy Awards, five of which were personally awarded to Nye. The show remains a cultural touchstone for making science accessible and entertaining.

Since his days as the Science Guy, Nye has continued to promote science education and environmental awareness. He has written several books on science and climate change, including Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation and Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World.

He has also appeared in documentaries, television programs, and debates on topics such as evolution, climate change, and space exploration. Nye currently serves as the CEO of The Planetary Society, advocating for space exploration and science literacy.

Bill Nye grew up in Washington, D.C., and attended Sidwell Friends School. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 1977. While at Cornell, Nye took a class taught by Carl Sagan, who inspired his passion for science communication.

After graduating, Nye worked as a mechanical engineer for Boeing in Seattle. During his time there, he developed a hydraulic pressure resonance suppressor still used in Boeing 747 airplanes.
