Billie Eilish
Academy & Grammy Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Known for "when the party's over" & "bad guy"
Billie Eilish, a singer and songwriter, first gained public attention in 2015 with her debut single "Ocean Eyes." The song, recorded with her brother Finneas, received several hundred thousand listens in just two weeks, setting the stage for her rapid rise to fame. In 2017, she released her debut EP, "Don't Smile at Me," which reached number 14 on the US Billboard 200. Her undeniable talent and unique sound – described as fitting into the "streambait" genre, influenced by Lana Del Rey – led to Apple Music naming her their Up Next artist in September 2017, resulting in a short documentary, a live session EP, and an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1.
Eilish's first studio album, "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?", debuted at the top of the charts in both the US and UK. The album, featuring the hit song "Bad Guy," resulted in her breaking the record for most simultaneously charting Hot 100 songs by a female artist. Her commitment to her craft is evident in her music and her directorial debut with the video for her song "Xanny" in 2019. Eilish's impact on the music industry is further highlighted by her significant award victories; she has received seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and an Academy Award. She is also the first woman and the youngest artist in Grammy history to win all four general field categories in the same year. Eilish’s third studio effort, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” debuted in 2024 as her highest-performing album yet.
Aside from her music career, Eilish uses her platform to advocate for important societal issues. She is known for her activism on climate change awareness, body positivity, women's reproductive rights, and gender equality. Her influence stretches beyond music, with recognition in fashion and beauty endorsements, and features in Vanity Fair's "73 Questions" video series and Forbes' 30 Under 30 list. Eilish's engagement in various fields and her commitment to using her voice for positive change make her a multifaceted figure whose influence is felt across the globe.
