Blair Underwood is an American television, film, and stage actor and director, known for his dynamic roles across various formats. He notably portrayed attorney Jonathan Rollins on the NBC legal drama "L.A. Law" for seven years and is set to reprise this role in an upcoming reboot for ABC. His career accolades include two Golden Globe Award nominations, five NAACP Image Awards, and one Grammy Award.
In addition to his continued presence on television in series such as "Quantico" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Underwood has expanded his repertoire with significant roles in "Impeachment" for FX, playing "Vernon Jordan," and as the father in the second season of "Love Life" on HBO Max. He also starred in the Netflix limited series "Self-Made," opposite Octavia Spencer, which earned him a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series at the NAACP Image Awards. His Broadway credentials are equally impressive, having starred in the Roundabout Theatre revival of “A Soldier’s Play,” for which he received a Tony Award nomination.
Underwood's directorial ventures include the feature film "Viral," where he also stars opposite Sarah Silverman and Alfre Woodard. He is currently filming a starring role in the new Showtime series "Three Women." His involvement in the Hulu horror comedy "Bad Hair" and his recurring role in the Netflix series "Dear White People" further showcase his versatility and commitment to diverse projects.
Philanthropically, Underwood is deeply engaged in various causes. He continues to support the Los Angeles chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, with whom he won the 1993 Humanitarian Award, and actively participates in initiatives with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and other organizations focused on mental illness, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS advocacy. His contributions extend into civil rights and social justice, areas in which he remains a vocal and influential figure.
