Retired American Airline's Captain, First Female Pilot for American Airlines

Bonnie Tiburzi Caputo joined American Airlines in 1973 at the age of 24, becoming the first female pilot to fly for a major U.S. airline. At the same time she also became the first woman in the world to earn a Flight Engineer rating on a turbo-jet aircraft. Bonnie began her aviation career as a charter pilot and flight instructor. She was a Captain on the Boeing 727, Boeing 757, and the Boeing 767. She retired from American in 1999 after 26 years of service, but her breakthrough legacy still inspires us today.
