Boris Segalis, a partner and vice chair at Cooley, has focused his practice exclusively on privacy, data protection and cybersecurity for more than 10 years.

Throughout his professional career, he has counseled clients on a range of privacy, cybersecurity and information management issues in the context of compliance, business strategy, and technology transactions, in addition to legal issues within data-based products and services, such as big data programs, and smart grid operations. Segalis represents clients in a variety of industries, ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies, and areas of interest such as online retailers and ecommerce, to fintech, blockchain, and entertainment.

For six consecutive years, Segalis has been individually recognized by Chambers USA in the Privacy & Data Security category, and is recognized by Chambers Global for Privacy & Data Security – USA. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals, has served as co-chair of NYC IAPP KnowledgeNet and served on the IAPP’s Research Board.

Before joining Cooley, he was the former US co-chair of Norton Rose Fulbright’s data protection, privacy and cybersecurity practice group. Prior to Norton Rose Fulbright, he practiced at two national firms, subsequently joining InfoLawGroup LLP, where he helped develop the firm into one of the leading privacy and data security practices in the US. Boris began his career in the aerospace industry where he worked as an engineer on the Space Shuttle and other space programs.
