Brent Jones

Former NFL Tight End; Super Bowl Champion; NFL Broadcaster

With three Super Bowl rings to his credit, a handshake from former San Francisco 49er Brent Jones must be pretty impressive – and pretty painful. From 1987 to 1997, Brent Jones appearances for the 49ers as the team’s tight end caused opposing teams to raise their game.

After graduating from Santa Clara University, Brent Jones was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers but never donned the black and yellow colors on the field. Instead, he made his NFL debut with the 49ers in a fortuitous pairing of player and team. Together, the 49ers won three Super Bowls while Brent Jones made four trips to the Pro Bowl and was twice selected for All Pro status. Among his career stats are 33 touchdowns, 417 receptions and 5,195 receiving yards.

When his playing career wrapped up in 1997, Brent Jones appearances became no less common as the former 49er began appearing as an analyst on CBS’ The NFL Today program. He held that post until 2004. Today, Brent Jones appearances at San Jose Sharks games might be most common, as the Californian serves on the board of directors for the company that owns the National Hockey League team.

Whereas many sports stars lend their endorsements to products and businesses after their days on the field end, Brent Jones endorsements are more likely to come in the political arena. An active Republication, Brent Jones has endorsed several candidates from the Bay Area in California.
