Brian Pinto is chief economist for emerging markets at GLG Partners LP, a position he assumed in March 2013. Previously he was senior advisor in the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network of the World Bank Group. His areas of expertise include economic growth, fiscal policy and sovereign debt, the economics of oil-exporting countries and transition economics. Pinto was senior economist for the World Bank in Poland at the start of its momentous reforms and lead economist in Russia during its 1998 crisis and subsequent recovery. He also was an advisor to the managing director for Africa, Europe and Central and South Asia during the global financial crisis. Pinto's work has appeared in "Brookings Papers on Economic Activity" and several professional journals. He is a co-editor of "Managing Economic Volatility and Crises: A Practitioner's Guide." Pinto holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and degrees from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and Loyola College, Madras University, India.
