Britton Shackleford

Cast of "Wicked Tuna: North vs. South," Captain of the "Doghouse"

Captain Britton Shackelford can be summed up with three words in a very specific order: Faith, Family and Fishing. Britton's faith that there is a plan laid out for him and his family allows him the confidence to go out and fish to support his way of life.

Britton moved to the Outer Banks from Gloucester, Virginia, in 1990 and very quickly found himself immersed in the fishing community and head-over-heels for one of the daughters of the town of Wanchese.

Britton and Audra were soon wed and now have three children to support, a driving force in Britton's fishing-at-any-cost approach to piloting the Doghouse out of Wanchese and into the open seas every day. Britton will do anything to provide for his family and often does in the form of commercial fishing, charter fishing, leading duck-hunting tours.

More than most of the other boats in the fleet, Britton is acutely aware that a tuna boats success ties directly into the well-being of Wanchese and the Outer Banks. A good season for the fleet means a good season for all and Britton is ready and willing to shoulder that burden as well as push the others in the fleet towards success. One of his ways of rallying the boats is continuing the tradition of leading a morning prayer every day the Doghouse is out on the water as the fleet starts fishing for the day.
