Brix Smith-Start

BRIX SMITH-START / Multi-talented Brix has since gone on to pursue a career in presenting, acting and most notably, fashion!

She began her career in her native US as an actress, but perhaps more memorably in the legendary post-punk British band The Fall in 1983 as a guitarist/singer/songwriter, first appearing on the Perverted by Language album, and going on to record and release numerous albums with them including the hit albums 'Cerebal Caustic' and 'The Light User Syndrome'.

Brix went on to release 2 solo albums under the name ‘‘Adult Net’’ working with the likes of Craig Cannon and Clem Burke. Following a short stint where she went on tour with The Bangles (!) she soon after released the Happy Unbirthday EP on Strangelove, which is a collaboration with Marty Willson-Piper and includes a cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity".

Most recently Brix put out her first solo LP Neurotica which is available as a digital download on Loser Friendly Records and from iTunes.

With a keen eye and passio for fashion, in 2002 with her husband Philip, Brix launched her first boutique Start. Taking over Rivington Street in East London, with 4 fabulous boutiques and an online store the Start stores are A-list boutiques, loved by the elite of the media and fashion and are considered to be amongst the best stores in the world.

With huge designer labels such as Mulberry, See by Chloe, Philip Lim and so many more, Brix has worked hard to bring fashion for everyone.

The fashionista and stylist has become one of the most recognizable faces in fashion having worked on all three series of C4’s runaway smash 'Gok’s Fashion Fix' pitting her high end outfits against the bespectacled stylist’s high street picks!

At the same time she was a daily fixture on the hit Sky 1 lunchtime chat show 'Angela and Friends' (Sky TV) as their fashion guru and her numerous television appearances include an BBC's 'The Culture Show' fronting a piece on Andy Warhol and his impact on the fashion world.

Brix soon stepped into her own in the exciting six part series 'Promzillas' for Sky Living. A homemade hit, this multiple makeover show saw the characters and the proms themselves being made over by a team of celebrity stylists known as the ‘prom squad'. Exploring the extreme and colourful world of proms and providing a snapshot of modern British teenagers (and their parents) at a crucial time in their lives.

Surprisingly for Brix this wasn't all about designer names but the sparkle, spangle and looking simply fabulous for the biggest day in a teenagers life.

A previous regular on Lorraine's 'What's Hot, What's Not' for ITV, in 2012 we saw Brix handing out valuable fashion tips on ITV's 'This Morning' as she joined the team as their resident fashion expert showing members of the public how to work with what they have in terms of budget, body shape and personality.

Desperate to return to her acting roots, Brix was cast in the brand new Sky1 comedy ‘Parents’ opposite John Thomson, Sally Phillips, Tom Conti and Susie Blake. She played the hilarious role of John Thomson’s characters long suffering wife ‘Kathleen’ to rave reviews.

Ensuring she didn't stray too far from her fashion credentials Brix regularly hosts exclusive coverage for SKY for 'The Golden Globe Awards' and the 'Oscars' talking through the highs and lows of the red carpet fashion parade and conducting live interviews yet again demonstrating her ease and aptitude for live television.

Most recently Brix has been seen in the exciting series 'Ultimate Shopper' which premiered on the brand new channel
