Bruce Aitken
President and CEO Methanex Corporation
As Methanex’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Aitken has been at the helm of the global leader in methanol since May 2004. During his time leading the Company, Methanex has continued to advance its long-term strategy and maintain its leadership position in the global methanol industry. Methanex has the potential to double its cost competitive production base over the next few years by delivering on a number of value-adding projects. Its new 1.3 million tonne methanol facility in Damietta, Egypt, made its first deliveries to customers in 2011. Responding quickly to the changing North American natural gas market, the Company made the decision to restart its idled 0.5 million tonne plant in Medicine Hat, Canada. This capacity was also added to Methanex’s production base in 2011. The Company announced plans to re-locate a methanol plant to Geismar, Louisiana which is expected to be in operation in 2014. Methanex also continues to make progress in securing additional natural gas to increase production in both Chile and New Zealand. Methanex maintains a strong financial position and is well positioned to grow earnings and cash flows in the coming years. An internationally experienced executive, Mr. Aitken has, for over 30 years, lived and worked in five different countries on assignments of increasing complexity and seniority. Before assuming his current role as President and CEO, he held a variety of positions with Methanex, including President and Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific. In the 1990s, Mr. Aitken led a review of Methanex’s global organization that evolved into its current operating structure. He was influential in establishing Methanex’s core strategies of global leadership, low cost and operational excellence. Prior to joining Methanex, Mr. Aitken was Executive Director of Cape Horn Methanol in Santiago, Chile, from 1991 to 1993. From 1979 to 1991, he also held a number of managerial positions with Fletcher Challenge Limited in New Zealand. Mr. Aitken holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Auckland University. He is married and has two grown children. When he finds a spare moment, chances are you will find him skiing, golfing or playing squash.
