Bryan Yuji Walker is an Associate Partner in our Palo Alto office, where he leads the organizational design portfolio and oversees business and content excellence in this domain. He actively pursues new ways in which designers can effect and support massive change within complex human systems. To this end, he has worked with organizations in consumer electronics, fashion, financial services, food and beverage, health care, hospitality, and retail industries.

Bryan, an IDEO veteran, collaborates with organizations to design innovation strategies that build upon existing assets to meet future needs and goals—and ultimately support enterprise-wide transformation. He constantly considers how we will live and work differently in the future, asking questions like: What can corporate intrapreneurs learn from entrepreneurs? How is technology, a new generation of employees, and a shifting marketplace redefining the workplace experience? How can we bring the “human” back to human resources?

Bryan’s work has been widely recognized. His design research for a baby stroller was awarded the product design of the year by the Human Factors and Ergonomic Society and was later featured in Smithsonian. His projects have been featured in BusinessWeek, Fast Company, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.

In addition to his work at IDEO, Bryan is a core design team member for the Aspen Institute’s First Movers Fellowship Program. He also lectures at Cornell University, Stanford University, UC-Berkeley, and the California Center of Arts on the topics of design thinking, organizational design, consumer experience design, and service design.

Bryan earned a master’s in social anthropology from Oxford University and a bachelor’s in design and environmental analysis from Cornell. Outside the office, he can be found chasing the perfect wave.
