Buzz Williams

Head Basketball Coach, Texas A&M University, Formerly Virginia Tech

Buzz Williams is entering his fourth season as head basketball coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies. Since joining the Hokies, Buzz has taken great strides to establish a culture of hard work and accountability, both on and off the court.

Prior to joining the Hokies, Williams served as head men's basketball coach at Marquette (2008-2014). While at Marquette, Williams had a record of 139-69, and led the team to five NCAA appearances, including a trip to the regional finals in the 2012-13 season, the same season the team won the Big East Conference regular season title.

In addition to Williams' time at Marquette, he enjoyed time as the head coach at the University of New Orleans (2006–07) seasons, and as an assistant coach at the Texas-Arlington, Texas A&M–Kingsville, Northwestern State, Colorado State, and Texas A&M.

Buzz grew up in Texas where he earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Oklahoma City University and a master's degree in the same field at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Williams received his nickname, Buzz, because he had so much energy that the coaches nicknamed him, "buzz."

Williams is married to wife, Corey, with whom he has two daughters (Addyson and Zera) and two sons (Calvin and Mason).
