Head Basketball Coach, Texas A&M Aggies

Buzz Williams is the head men's basketball coach at Texas A&M University. Williams' head coaching career spans several universities with previous roles at Virginia Tech, Marquette, and New Orleans. His overall record after 16 seasons as a head coach is 327-202 (.618), including a 74-47 (.612) mark at Texas A&M, which includes two-time SEC Coach of the Year honors.

Among the Williams era of Aggie basketball accomplishments are: reaching the SEC Tournament championship game in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023; winning 15 SEC regular season games and posting an undefeated conference record at home in 2022-23; earning the program’s first NCAA Tournament bid in five seasons in 2022-23; and reaching the NIT championship game in 2022 for the first time in program history.

With the Aggies’ invitation to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Williams has become one of a handful of Division I head coaches to take three different programs to the “Big Dance.” Overall, he has coached in 19 NCAA Tournament games and produced 10 victories, which ranks him No. 22 in both categories among active Division I head coaches.

Williams began his college basketball coaching career at Texas-Arlington after earning his degree in kinesiology from Oklahoma City University. He also held assistant coaching positions at Texas A&M–Kingsville, Northwestern State, Colorado State, and Texas A&M.
