Calum Worthy

Canadian Actor & Environmental Activist

Calum Worthy is a Canadian actor, writer, and producer known for his role as Dez on the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally. Worthy appeared in Hulu’s true-crime anthology series The Act. He has also appeared in more than 70 film and TV projects including The Netflix series American Vandal, the Eminem-produced battle rap film "Bodied," the Ed Helms 2019 Sundance film "Corporate Animals," Legendary Studio’s "The Thinning," "Smallville," and "Supernatural."

Worthy serves as one of Al Gore’s Youth Ambassador for his organization “The Climate Reality Project” and has co-hosted 24 Hours of Reality for the past 4 years, staying up for 24 hours straight highlighting the top 24 carbon emitting countries alongside Gore.

His first year co-hosting was in 2015 in Paris, two weeks before the Paris Climate Agreement was signed. Four hours into the broadcast, they received news that there had been a terrorist attack and had to stop the show.

Worthy and Gore continued to co-host the 24 Hours of Reality broadcasts in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Some of the other co-hosts included Ryan Reynolds, Shailene Woodley, Bill Nye, Jason Mraz, Edward Norton, Jonathan Scott, Zachary Quinto, and One Republic. Each broadcast had over 20 million viewers worldwide.

Worthy has also attended the Climate Reality Training Program in Iowa to learn about the science behind climate change from some of the leading scientists who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Alongside Al Gore and Richard Branson, Worthy led the March For Science in Washington DC. He spoke to the youth contingency about the ways they can effectively encourage their local government to take action on climate change – even when the Federal government isn’t willing to listen.

Worthy was a keynote speaker at the Green Sports Alliance, where he spoke to the owners and coaches of NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB teams about the ways they can use their platforms to educate their young fans about the climate crisis.

He also works with ONE—Bono’s non-profit advocacy organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease in Africa by raising public awareness and pressuring political leaders to support policies and groundbreaking programs. Today, 130 million girls didn’t go to school, 1 billion women don’t have access to a bank account, and 800,000 women will be infected with HIV.

Worthy traveled to East Africa in 2018 with ONE to learn about gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, seeing first-hand the huge difference international assistance can make when it focuses on empowerment of women and girls.

Worthy has been a vocal activist since high school where he started a club to raise money to install solar panels on the roof of his school. He understands what it means to be a young activist and uses his platform to encourage young people to become fellow change-makers in the fight to solve the greatest challenges facing their generation.
