Candace Gingrich-Jones

Author and LGBT Activist with a unique perspective on politics

Candace Gingrich became involved in the LGBT movement for equality in 1995, when her brother, Newt Gingrich, became Speaker of the House and she was granted a larger platform for which to make her voice heard. A high-profile advocate for the LGBT community, Gingrich has been profiled in many national newspapers and magazines, written for the Huffington Post, and appeared on Good Morning America and Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

The author of The Accidental Activist, Candace Gingrich shares her personal story, from coming out to promoting acceptance to making a stand by voting. Gingrich believes that the current generation of young Americans is crucial to obtaining full LGBT equality. Dubbed "Generation Equality" or "GenEQ" by Gingrich, she implores them to not just be supportive but "to speak up and act out in order to achieve the justice and equality queer Americans deserve."
