Cara Wilson-Granat

With the passing of Miep Gies, the hero who saved Anne Franks diary for the world, author Cara Wilson-Granat's message is more poignant than ever. A longtime friend of Otto Frank, Cara shares the wisdom and insights of his experiences through speaking about her autobiography "Dear Cara: Letters From Otto Frank," as one of the last living links to the family's extraordinary story.

A Jewish teenager from the San Fernando Valley, California, Wilson-Granat (Weiss-Wilson) first began writing to Otto Frank after being greatly moved by his daughter's "The Diary of Anne Frank" in the late 1950s. The correspondence continued over two decades, through which Cara's collection of touching notes between both Otto and herself chronicles their relationship evolving from a mentorship to a connection between kindred spirits, empathetically in search of human understanding.

The book has become the personalized legacy of Otto Frank, who requested Cara and his international adopted family of supporters continue spreading his beloved daughters message around the world. To fulfill that wish, Cara presents Otto's inspirational words through the book and speaking engagements, designed to bring hope to a new generation through a unique historical perspective. Applicable to all ages (middle school students on up preferred), races, religions and creeds, the lessons in tolerance, forgiveness and acceptance are timely and relevant to all walks of life.

Through telling her story, Cara engages audiences in a once-in-lifetime interaction with the Franks' chapter in history and her remarkable personal experience with it. Listeners form their own intimate connection to the Holocaust as she brings history alive for them, ensuring the Frank family's tragedy is not forgotten but inspires intercultural healing, learning and compassion to preserve the legacy of Otto Frank for generations to come.

Cara Wilson-Granat has also written "It Takes a Lot of Sh*t to Make a Garden Grow (Shoveling Your Way Out of Manuretia to a Sweeter Smelling (and Living) Life" and "Nature Teachers -- Taught by the Most Unlikely Masters."

Her lectures are appropriate for a wide variety of organizations and can be customized to include workshops or Q&A sessions for further dialogue between participants. Selected topics include: letting go of hatred, finding guidance and hope in troubled times, making positive choices and persevering despite insurmountable challenges.
