Carl Benedikt Frey

Swedish-German Economist; Author of "The Technology Trap"

Carl Benedikt Frey is a Swedish-German economist. He is the director of the program on Technology and Employment at the Oxford Martin School at Oxford University. He is the author of "The Technology Trap: Capital, Labor and Power in the Age of Automation."

In a paper titled "The Future of Employment: How Susceptible Are Jobs to Computerization?," Frey and Michael Osborne estimated that 47% of jobs in the U.S. are at risk of becoming automated. That paper has been called "one of the most influential studies of our time." The World Bank has used the methodology set forth in that paper to calculate that 77% of jobs in China are at risk of automation, as are 69% of jobs in India and 85% of jobs in Ethiopia.
