Actor, Director & Producer Known for "Devil in a Blue Dress"

Carl Franklin is an award-winning director, writer, actor and producer with over four decades of experience across the entertainment industry. He is best known for his landmark work in the 1990s, directing the acclaimed independent crime thriller "One False Move" and writing and directing the seminal neo-noir "Devil in a Blue Dress," starring Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle.

Franklin first began acting in off-Broadway performances in New York City, before beginning his on-screen career with "Five on the Black Hand Side." He performed in numerous television series in the 1970s and 1980s, and portrayed Captain Crane on the mid-80s hit "The A-Team".

A graduate of University of California, Berkeley, Franklin continued his education at the AFI Conservatory, where he graduated with an MFA degree in directing. His remarkable body of work as a director includes 1998’s "One True Thing," which earned star Meryl Streep her 11th Academy Award® nomination, as well as a variety of television credits, including HBO’s "The Newsroom" and "The Leftovers," Showtime’s "Homeland" and "Ray Donovan" and NAACP Image Award-winning work on Netflix’s "13 Reasons Why" and "House of Cards," the latter earning him an Emmy nomination as well.

More recently, Franklin directed the premiere episode of Netflix’s "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story," based on the infamous Menendez Brothers’ murder case, produced by Ryan Murphy. The series is the follow-up to Netflix’s smash hit "Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," for which Franklin earned a BAFTA Award and an Emmy® nomination for his work producing the show and directing the premiere, respectively.

Franklin is currently developing a series on The Black Panther party for Netflix and a historical neo-noir, among other projects.
