Carl Wellenstein
Carl Wellenstein specializes in helping individuals in mid-career accelerate their job search and pursue new career destinies.
The approach in his new book, 12 Steps to a New Career: What to Do When You Want to Make a Change Now!, uses a step-by-step process that explains in detail what you need to do, why and when. The reader is never left wondering how something needs to be done because he includes examples of what worked successfully for others.Carl has a unique ability to create repeatable and successful processes that take people from where they are to where they need to be. He started his career with Arthur Young & Co (now Ernst & Young) in Los Angeles where, as a CPA, he developed effective audit processes for complex, multinational financial transactions. After fifteen years, including five years as country managing partner in Saudi Arabia, he decided to leave public accounting. He struggled to find appropriate opportunities requiring his financial expertise where his process skills could be put to good use. Not finding a suitable match, he realized that what he really wanted to do was change his focus from numbers to people. At the request of a colleague, he relocated to the UK to set up an international executive search firm. Over the next seven years as the managing director, he developed a unique team-based search and interviewing process and participated in final candidate selection interviews with employers. This experience enabled him to better understand how skills can be transferred effectively to a new industry with the assent of recruiters and employers.Following a family tragedy, he decided to return to the US and focus more on working with individuals in mid-career who wanted or needed to change jobs or find new meaningful careers that built on their skills and experience.Carl obtained his BS in business, has a certificate in coaching and completed the JCTC (Job and Career Transition Coach) program. He is married with two children and lives in Southern California
