Carmen Barroso is Interim CEO of Global Doctors for Choice. the Co-Chair of the Gender and Rights Technical Group of WHO, and the former Co-Chair of the Independent Accountability Panel.

She was the Director of IPPF-WHR; the Director of Population at the MacArthur Foundation, Professor at Macalester College, and at the University of Sao Paulo, and Senior Researcher at the Chagas Foundation, where she pioneered Brazil’s first women’s studies centre. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and did post-doctoral work at Cornell University. She received the 2016 UN Population Award.
