Carmen Madden  

Carmen Madden is the award winning producer/director/and writer of the feature film Everyday Black Man. She is also the 1st African American woman to run her own production studio, CLM Films, in Oakland, CA. Everyday Black Man won Best Feature Film award

Carmen Madden, is the Producer/Director/Writer

 of the award-winning feature Film, Everyday Black Man.  In addition to being an award-winning director, Carmen is the founder and Director of CLM Films, LLC. Thereby, making history as one of the first African American women to run a well-maintained feature film studio in Oakland, California. Carmen is dedicated to developing and producing projects for film and television that tell creative and passionate stories about everyday people as they struggle with trying to achieve the American dream, and how those dreams are sometimes forfeited, reshaped, or reclaimed in order to save one’s community and or family.

 

Carmen started her entertainment career as an actress. She performed in a variety of stage plays, and toured with the San Francisco Mime Troupe. Carmen is also a published and award winning writer. Her short stories have appeared in various literary magazines and she has received screenwriting awards from the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame, Santa Barbara Writer’s Conference, and in 2009 and 2010 she received the Best Feature Film Award for Everyday Black Man from Peach Tree Village International Film Festival, Pan African International Film Festival, and the Tallahassee Film  Festival.

 

In addition to these achievements, Carmen also wrote and performed with Writers That Act in San Francisco, California. Besides writing and acting, Carmen has other talents as well. She is an educator at the community college level teaching film, acting, creative writing, and English. She also ran Fame! The All in One Talent Agency for six years where she not only ran the day-to-day business of the agency, but excelled at training her clients and getting them jobs. Carmen is very proud of the fact that everyone she trained found work: and continues to work in the entertainment field. Along with all these talents, Carmen has a BA in film and a MA in English with a concentration in creative writing from San Francisco State University. It is her wish that CLM will produce films that inspire hope, promote discussion, and encourage people to become more involved in their community. She is currently working on her next film Shadow Fight!
