Caroline Marks
Multi-National Surf Champion & Youngest Surfer to Qualify for World Championships Tour & Two-Time Olympian
Caroline Marks is the youngest surfer to have ever qualified for both the women’s Championship Tour and the inaugural 2020 Summer Olympics. In addition to participating in the 2020 Olympics, Marks also qualified for and won a gold medal in the women's shortboard event at the 2024 Olympic Games, further establishing her as a key figure in the US Women's Surfing Team.
This American professional surfer, who was the 2023 WSL Women's World Tour Champion, honed her explosive surfing style in Melbourne Beach, Florida, before relocating to San Clemente, California. Her family, including four older brothers and a younger sister, played a critical role in shaping her tenacity and diverse skills. Marks started surfing competitively at the tender age of 8, driven by the need to keep pace with her brothers. In California, she became a regular in the San Clemente lineups, progressing faster and accruing national NSSA titles in the girls and women’s divisions, two Vans US Open Pro Junior titles, and an ISA World Title before setting out on the Qualifying Series in 2017.
In her first year on the Championship Tour in 2018, Marks received the Rookie of The Year award and ended the season ranked No.7 in the world. She made a significant stride in 2019 by winning her first WSL event title, defeating three-time world champion Carissa Moore, and finished second on the WSL Championship tour that same year. Following her first major win, she has won a total of seven WSL Championship Tour events, including the Rip Curl WSL Finals and the SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro in 2023. In the 2020 Summer Olympics, Marks reached the quarterfinals of the shortboard competition and finished fourth overall.
Marks is also a feminist and an advocate for body image positivity in women. Apart from her sporting accolades, Marks has a YouTube channel where she shares content related to her surfing. She also has an array of sponsors, including Red Bull, Oakley, and Roxy, and has been featured in various media outlets, including Red Bull, ESPN, Yahoo Sports, and NBC Sports.
