Caron Asgarali    

Educator, Author, Inspirational Speaker, Survivor of Gun Violence & Advocate for Peace

Caron Asgarali is an educator (28 years), an author, an inspirational speaker, a runner, and the mother of one son.

Caron taught Chemistry in public schools for twenty two years before having to retire on medical grounds as a result of injuries from gunshot wounds during an attempted robbery in January 2013.

She has since started an organization, Project R.A.R.E. (Raising Awareness on the Ripple Effect of gun violence) that advocates against gun violence and for peace.

She volunteers and works together with several NGOs including Victim Support Foundation (VSF), a non- governmental, not for profit organization that assists victims of violent crimes.

Caron is the immediate past President of the T&T Association for the Improvement of Mental Health (TTAIMH), a not for profit organization that works with the support of the SWRHA.

Her three published books are From Lion to Lamb, A Spiritual Journey, Gently Powerful Prayers and Bounce Back Better, 10 (+1) Key Steps for Building Resilience.

She is currently leading a collaboration with nine other Trinidadian authors in an anthology of true inspirational stories, Hot Cocoa on a Rainy Day, 10 (+1) Stories to Warm Your Heart.

In 2018 she was nominated as one of twenty Outlook Inspirations by the BBC. In 2019 she was presented with Amway’s Hero Award for Determination.
