Casey McQuiston is the New York Times bestselling author of "Red, White & Royal Blue," as well as a pie enthusiast. They write books about smart people with bad manners falling in love. Born and raised in southern Louisiana, they now live in New York City with their poodle mix, Pepper. They attended Louisiana State University and received a degree in journalism. Prior to publishing their first book, McQuiston waited tables, freelanced, and worked extensively in magazine publishing.

McQuiston is openly bisexual and queer. They are non-binary and use any pronouns. Additionally, McQuiston is open about having ADHD and how it affects their writing. They describe their writing process as "impulse-driven" and frequently write scenes nonlinearly. After losing their dad in 2014 and struggling with their mental health in 2015, McQuiston turned to write as a way to cope.
