Chad Hugo

Grammy Award-Winning American Record Producer, Multi-Instrumentalist, Singer & Songwriter

Chad Hugo is a record producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Along with close friend Pharrell Williams, he established the production duo the Neptunes in 1992, and together they have produced songs for numerous recording artists. He is also a member of the band N.E.R.D, alongside Williams and Shay Haley. Hugo and Williams further expanded their influence in the music industry in 2001 when they co-founded the record label Star Trak Entertainment.

In the early years of their collaboration, Hugo and Williams often worked with artists associated with founder Teddy Riley, such as BLACKstreet and SWV. They later scored songwriting and production assignments with artists like N.O.R.E. and Mystikal, which became hits. This success allowed them to use their distinctive sound to produce records for megastars, including Jay-Z, Britney Spears, NSYNC, and Justin Timberlake. Hugo has also done solo productions, working with artists such as Kenna, Sierra Swan, E-40, and Mos Def, and has created remixes for Jesse McCartney, Kings of Leon, and St. Vincent.

Their work has not gone unnoticed in the industry. In 2002, The Neptunes were named Producers of the Year at both The Source Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. They also won the 2004 Grammy for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. Hugo himself has secured Grammy Awards for "Best Pop Vocal Album" and "Producer of the Year." In 2020, Hugo and Williams were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as a testament to their significant contributions to music.

In recognition of his contributions to the music industry, Chad Hugo received an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music in 2021.
