Chad Knaus
NASCAR Crew Chief for Jimmie Johnson No. 48 Lowes Chevrolet Car, Former Member of both Jeff Gordon & Dale Earnhardt’s Crews
Being a part of the motorsports industry has been instilled in Chad Knaus since his childhood days of working at Midwest racetracks with his father. Making his NASCAR debut in 1991, Knaus has spent time with some of the most prominent racing names in the sport and amassed an impressive record along the way. He currently represents Hendrick Motorsports as the crew chief for Jimmie Johnsons No. 48 Lowes Chevrolet car. Knaus has coached Johnson to 63 victories and five consecutive Sprint Cup Championships.
Knaus road to NASCAR began as a young teenager when he started working as a crew chief for his father, John. The father-son duo quickly climbed their way up the championship ladder and earned their first title at the Rockford Speedway when Knaus was 14. By the time Knaus entered NASCAR in the early 90s, the pair had tallied seven championships together.
In 1993, Knaus joined the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsport car driven by Jeff Gordon. His five years on the team warranted two championships, one in 1995 and the other in 1997.
In 1999, Knaus seized an opportunity to lead the Dodge development team. The position eventually led to his first stint as a NASCAR crew chief when he was promoted to direct Stacy Comptons team in 2001.
Knaus moved back to Hendrick Motorsports after one year to assume the role of crew chief for then rookie Jimmie Johnson. The duo has since combined for an impressive number of titles, including five Sprint Cup championships.
Knaus is available to share his insights on teamwork, focus, time management as well as his unique insights in the world of motorsports.
