Chan Gailey is the head football coach at Georgia Tech.

Chan Gailey is the head football coach at Georgia Tech.

Gailey started his coaching career in 1974 as a secondary coach at Troy where he stayed until 1978. He then went to Air Force as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator, until he was asked to be head coach of Troy in 1983.

He moved up to the NFL the next year, when the Denver Broncos made him a defensive assistant and special teams coach. The team made three Super Bowl appearances during his six-years there. He then became coach of the Birmingham Fire of the World League of America Football, where the team made the playoffs both years he was coach.

After one-year as head coach at Samford, he returned to the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gailey was then hired to take over the Dallas Cowboys. Gailey's Cowboys made the playoffs during his two years at the helm. He then returned to the offensive coordinator role with the Miami Dolphins.

In 2002, he became head coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
