Charlotte Markey        

Professor of Psychology & Chair of the Health Sciences Department at Rutgers University

Charlotte Markey, Ph.D., is a world-leading expert in body image research, having studied all things body image and eating behaviors for over 25 years! She is passionate about understanding what makes us feel good about our bodies and helping people to develop a healthy body image and relationship with food. Charlotte is a psychology professor at Rutgers University and has published over 100 scholarly articles and chapters about health issues.

Dr. Markey is also an experienced book author, having most recently published "The Body Image Book series" (The Body Image Book for Girls: Love Yourself and Grow Up Fearless in 2020; Being You: The Body Image Book for Boys in 2022, and Adultish: The Body Image Book for Life comes out in 2024). She also recently co-edited the 3-volume "Encyclopedia of Mental Health" (2023).

She writes regularly for news outlets including Psychology Today, US News and World Report, and Huffington Post and is regularly interviewed for TV, news articles, and podcasts focusing on body image, eating behaviors, adolescence, and parenting.

She currently lives in Pennsylvania with her son, Charlie, daughter, Grace, husband, Dan, and their dog, Lexi. For fun, she likes to run, travel, and read, but often spends her free time nagging her kids to fill up the Britta water pitcher and remove the cups and dishes from their rooms.
