Chris Burns
Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Bryant University; First Openly Gay Division 1 Men's Basketball Coach
Chris Burns enters his fourth season as a member of the Bryant men’s basketball coaching staff and third as an assistant coach in 2015-16. Burns spent the 2012-13 season as the Director of Basketball Operations before being named an assistant coach in June of 2013.
Prior to his time at Bryant, Burns spent two years as an assistant coach at Rhode Island College under head coach Bob Walsh. While at RIC, Burns was responsible for developing practice plans, recruiting and scouting opponents. Under the aid of Burns, the Anchormen advanced to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, reaching the Division III Sweet 16 in 2011.
Before RIC, Burns spent three years with the Manchester Millrats, a semi-professional basketball team based out of Manchester, N.H. Burns played for the Millrats for two seasons from 2007-2009, landing his first coaching gig as an assistant with the organization during the 2009-10 season.
Burns, a 2007 graduate of Bryant University and a member of the men’s basketball team from 2003-2007, helped the Bulldogs advance to four-straight Division II NCAA Tournaments, including the 2005 NCAA Division II National Championship Game, in which he was named the Chevrolet Player-of-the-Game. Burns was also named the Northeast-10 2003-04 Freshman of the Year and earned an All-Northeast-10 First-Team nod as a senior in 2006-07.
Burns graduated from Bryant in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.
