Christian F. Nunes, MBA, MS, LCSW, is a dynamic advocate who made history when she assumed the role of NOW President in August 2020. Prior to this, she served as Vice President, appointed by the board in May 2019. As the organization's second African American president and the youngest person of color to hold the position in over 40 years, Nunes leads NOW's intersectional mission, rallying grassroots activists against structural sexism and racism.
With over two decades of experience advocating for children's and women's issues, Nunes's leadership at NOW has seen the launch of impactful initiatives. She spearheaded the Unlock the Future campaign, advocating for humane treatment of detained immigrant families, particularly women and girls escaping sexual violence, assault, and poverty. Additionally, she crafted a Bill of Rights for Immigrant Women and Girls, gaining thousands of supporters. Nunes also champions racial equity training for all levels of the organization, initiated NOW's Annual Racial Justice Summit, and led many other transformative programs promoting all aspects of intersectional feminism.
As a licensed clinical social worker, consultant, and woman-minority business owner, Nunes brings a wealth of expertise to her activism. Her mental health background enhances her understanding of constituents' experiences and highlights gaps in policy and legislation.
Nunes's commitment to social justice extends beyond NOW, as she has chaired the Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues, co-authored a community survey on police response to crises, and actively supported progressive candidates in local elections.
Her influence and insights have earned her features in prominent media outlets such as Forbers, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, Fortune, MSNBC, Business Insider, Politico, the Huffington Post, and many more esteemed outlets.
Nunes holds a Bachelor's in Social Work (BSW) from Northern Arizona University, a Master of Science from Columbia University, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
