Christine A. Platt
Author & Managing Director of The Antiracist Research & Policy Center at American University
A lover of fiction and fantasy, Christine A. Platt enjoys writing stories interwoven with African diasporic experiences. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies from the University of South Florida and Master of Arts in African Studies from The Ohio State University. She also received her Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law and enjoyed working as a Senior Policy Advisor at the US Department of Energy before returning to her love for storytelling.
Platt’s debut novel, The Truth About About Awiti, was published through her indie press, Field Order Press, in March 2015. The Truth About Awiti won the 2016 Independent Publisher Book Awards Gold Medal for Multicultural Fiction and was named a ForewardReviews 2015 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Finalist. Dear Ancestors, a short poetry collection, was released in September 2016. Platt recently acquired representation by Emily Sylvan Kim of Prospect Agency. Platt’s work is drawn from the inspiration of many, particularly Octavia Butler. She is a proud member of Hedgebrook’s Cedar Deep Circle, the Association of Black Women Historians, and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Additionally, she is an Ambassador for Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. Currently, Platt serves as the Managing Director for American University’s Antiracist Research and Policy Center.
