Christine Romans is CNN's Chief Business Correspondent and the co-anchor of "Early Start with John Berman," in addition to hosting "Your Money," CNN's Saturday and Sunday business program. Romans reports on the economy, politics, and international business for CNN’s morning shows, with her reporting regularly featured on "CNN International." She is the author of two books: "How to Speak Money" and "Smart is the New Rich: If You Can't Afford it Put It Down."
Romans' segments, including her notable "Romans' Numeral," deconstruct complex stories and explain their implications for viewers. Her coverage spans significant economic events such as the bank crisis, the AIG bailout, the derivatives markets, and the economic stimulus and its impact on American finances. Notable investigative reports by Romans include the 2010 "Madoff: Secrets of a Scandal," where she co-hosted an hour-long special on Bernard Madoff's fraud, and her 2009 special "In God We Trust: Faith & Money in America," which examined the relationship between religious values and financial decisions in America.
Previously, Romans served as a correspondent for "Moneyline" and "Lou Dobbs Tonight" and reported extensively on topics such as immigration reform, substance abuse, homeland security, American foreign policy with China and Latin America, and education. She has reported from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange and covered global events, including the first democratic elections in Iraq from CNN Center in Atlanta. Her investigative journalism has also addressed corporate scandals and consumer health risks in hospitals.
Romans joined CNN Business News in 1999, after reporting for Reuters and Knight-Ridder Financial News from the futures trading pits in Chicago. She has been recognized with several awards, including an Emmy Award in 2004 for her work on “Exporting America,” part of a "Lou Dobbs Tonight" investigation. Additionally, she was part of the CNN coverage teams that earned a George Foster Peabody award for Hurricane Katrina coverage and an Alfred I. duPont Award for coverage of the Southeast Asia tsunami disaster. Romans is a graduate of Iowa State University.
