Christoph Gebald, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Climeworks, has emerged as a leading figure in the field of carbon capture and climate technology. With a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, Gebald holds both a master's degree with distinction and a PhD from ETH Zurich, one of the world’s premier technical universities. His academic journey was marked by a deep dive into direct air capture technologies, a field that would become the cornerstone of his professional career.

In 2009, Gebald co-founded Climeworks based on the research he conducted during his PhD. The company has since become a pioneer in the development and deployment of direct air capture solutions, including Orca, the world's first large-scale carbon dioxide removal plant, located in Iceland. With over 15 years of experience in CO2 capture, Gebald is widely regarded as an expert in this rapidly growing and essential industry.

Gebald’s leadership has been instrumental in Climework's growth and success. The company’s groundbreaking work has earned it international recognition, including The Helena Prize in 2017. In 2023, Gebald and fellow founder Jan Wurzbacher were named to the Time100 list, highlighting the duo as two of the most influential people in the world.
