Christy Martin

Professional Boxer, Domestic Violence Survivor & CEO of Christy Martin Promotions

Christy Martin, named the best woman boxer in the world by the World Boxing Council in 1996, has worked to bring the sport of woman's boxing from the status of a fringe or novelty sport into wider acceptance. After suffering domestic violence and a murder attempt by her former husband, Martin has made it her life’s mission to support family abuse victims and survivors in their own fight for life. Christy’s Champs is an organization that helps educate and empower those who suffer emotional and physical abuse in their families.

Martin has been inducted into six Halls of Fame, including the International Boxing Hall of Fame. She began her professional boxing career at age 21 and holds a record of 49 wins, 7 losses, and 3 draws with 31 wins by knockout. She retired from the ring in 2012 and is currently CEO of a boxing promotion company called Christy Martin Promotions.

Martin’s resilience is documented on the CBS 48 Hours episode "The Fight of Her Life," which details the boxer’s narrow escape after being repeatedly shot and stabbed in November of 2010. She attributes her strength to her upbringing and her faith.
