Chungliang Al Huang has been called "a master in the arts of living" and "a sage for the modern age." Chungliang Al Huang is the founder and president of Living Tao Foundation and director of Lan Ting Institute in China. Chungliang Al Huang received his early training in the classics and martial arts in China and is now a renowned and popular teacher of creative tai chi and contemporary Taoism. He has found success as an architect, cultural anthropologist, and dancer-choreographer.

Chungliang Al Huang is author of many books on mind/body/spirit integration, including the best-selling Embrace Tiger, Return to Mountain and Quantum Soup; Beginner's Taiji Book; Tao: The Watercourse Way; Thinking Body, Dancing Mind; The Tao of Giving and Receiving Wisdom; and Working Out, Working Within: The Tao of Inner Fitness Through Sports and Exercise. Philosopher, calligrapher, dancer, bamboo flute player and Tai Ji expert, Chungliang Al Huang is the embodiment of energy and wisdom: a matchless catalyst of the meeting of East and West. Chungliang Al Huang's presentations show people how to incorporate Tai Ji into their business and everyday lives. Chungliang Al Huang was born in China where he was immersed in the traditional study of Tai Ji, kung fu, calligraphy, and classic Chinese scholarly arts. In 1949, after the communist revolution, his family fled mainland China for Taiwan where he continued his studies.

Chungliang Al Huang came to the U.S. in 1955 as a university student. His intuitive knowledge of the ancient wisdom and rich traditions of his native China led to early collaborations with thought leaders Joseph Campbell, Alan Watts, John Blofeld and Huston Smith.

A popular and in-demand speaker at conferences and workshops, Chungliang Al Huang first returned to China in 1982 as a consultant to prominent American business groups.

Chungliang Al Huang's life, varied career and scholarly pursuits have taken him around the globe. From the renowned Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, to the world's major capitals, he shares the stage with such luminaries as the Dalai Lama.

In recognition of his contributions and achievements, Chungliang Al Huang was awarded the Gold Medal of Education, one of China's most highly-regarded honors. He is a research fellow at Academia Sinica, a fellow of the World Academy of Arts and Science, Stockholm, Sweden, and an assembly member of the Parliament of the World's Religions.

Prior to founding Living Tao, Chungliang Al Huang enjoyed a successful career as a dancer, choreographer and was a highly regarded performing artist in theatre, film and television. He performed with such cultural icons as Sammy Davis Jr. and Bruce Lee. His acting and dancing credits include "Flower Drum Song" and "Green Hornet".

As a musician and performer, Chungliang Al Huang has collaborated with pianist Lorin Hollander; jazz musician Paul Horn; cellists David Darling and Michael Fitzpatrick; flutists Alexander Murray, Lorna McGhee and Michael Faust; singers John Denver and Joan Baez; harpist Andreas Vollenweider; trombonist Stuart Dempster; trumpeter Guy Few; and many others.

Throughout his remarkable life, everything that Chungliang Al Huang has accomplished has been imbued with Tai Ji. His natural gifts as teacher/mentor, his intuitive knowledge of the intellectual and spiritual aspects of Tai Ji, along with a total devotion to his students, have endeared him to thousands of people around the world.
