America's Foremost Authority on Teaching Parents How to Instill Good Manners in Children of All Ages

Cindy Post Senning, Ed.D. is Emily Post’s great-granddaughter and an author, director, and spokesperson for The Emily Post Institute. Her newest book for children, Emily’s Everyday Manners, was co-authored with Peggy Post and incorporates humor and colorful illustration to create a book designed specifically for children ages 4-7. Emily’s Everyday Manners is part of a 10-book children’s series. The next two books in the series are Teen Manners: From Malls to Meals to Messaging and Beyond and Emily’s Magic Words, for toddlers.

Senning has spoken at a variety of organizations and events such as:National Press Club, University Club of Washington, DC, Ritz-Carlton Chicago, Orange County Book Festival, Amelia Island Book Festival, Huntingdon Learning Centers, Youth Leaders International, Boy Scouts of America, Emerson Process Management, Marshall Fields, Huron Consulting, Mount Mansfield Corporation, Turks & Caicos Children’s Seminar, and Beijing Educational Leadership Conference.

Senning's educational background and expertise in etiquette uniquely qualifies her to write definitively on the subject of children’s manners in the 21st century. Her writing and recommendations are based on child development and the idea of introducing specific manners at certain developmental stages in a child’s life.

In the past three years, Senning has completed two nationwide book tours—conducting manners workshops for children in public and private schools and libraries; as well as book store appearances and media interviews. She has reached thousands of parents and children across the country with her message that good manners are based on the principles of honesty, respect, and consideration. The 2006 tour for Emily’s Everyday Manners was sponsored by The Children’s Place and Parents magazine.

Senning and Peggy Post have also co-authored The Gift of Good Manners: A Parent’s Guide to Raising Respectful, Kind, Considerate Children and The Guide to Good Manners for Kids. The 2004 book tour for The Guide to Good Manners for Kids was sponsored by Betty Crocker, Horizon Organics, and Parents magazine. She is also an etiquette expert for 1-800-Flowers.com.

Senning's professional background includes nearly 30 years in education and health care. She holds a doctorate and masters in education, both from the University of Vermont; and a degree in nursing from Cornell University. She resides in Waterbury, Vermont, with her husband John. They have two grown sons. An avid traveler, Senning has visited Vietnam, Bosnia, France, Italy, the British Isles, China, Canada, Central America, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia with her family.
