Cleo Wade was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. As an artist, speaker, and poet, Wade is an influential advocate for gender and race equality, as well as civil rights and social justice. Her poetry and public engagements emphasize the importance of inclusivity across all demographics, including women, people of color, and the LGBTQI+ community. Wade's perspective is that art should serve all people, fostering happiness and well-being.
Wade is the New York Times Best-selling author of "Heart Talk: Poetic Wisdom for a Better Life," "Where To Begin: A Small Book about Your Power to Create Big Change," and "What the Road Said." Her influence has been recognized extensively, being dubbed the poet of her generation by Time Magazine and the "Millennial Oprah" by New York Magazine. Fast Company named her one of the 100 most creative people in business. Her TED talk "Want to change the world? Start by being brave enough to care" has captivated millions, reflecting her impact as a speaker.
In addition to her literary and public roles, Wade holds significant positions in various community and social equity organizations. She is the Co-chair of Gucci's Changemakers council and sits on the boards of The Lower East Side Girls Club, the National Black Theatre in Harlem, and the Women’s Prison Association, along with the advisory board of E Pluribus Unum, a racial equity organization based in America's South. Wade's contributions have also extended into collaborations with global brands like Barbie, Kate Spade, and Express, and she designed the official merch for Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2020 campaign. When not traveling for her engaging book tours or public engagements, she resides in California with her partner, Simon Kinberg, and their daughter, Memphis.
