Mesmerized by her voice and her confidence to follow her dreams, Clevette Roberts is a woman destined for greatness. Born in the small town of Kinston, North Carolina she spent part of her young childhood in Baltimore, Maryland and was primarily raised in Kinston, North Carolina. Graduating from Kinston High School she was very active in recreational athletic sports.

She developed a love for writing in her early childhood and was introduced to poetry shortly thereafter. Poetry became her outlet to express her feelings of adversity and overcoming. She began to write to express her feelings and thoughts to ease the trial and tribulations she experienced throughout her life. Her gift in writing began to receive recognition when she won a poetry contest in which three of her poems; Alone, Commotion, and, The Unexpected were published in an anthology called, The Silence Within. She is also an author of her poetry book called, Still Standing which was published by Amazon.

Ms. Roberts graduated from South Eastern Academy in Kissimmee, Florida with a degree in Travel & Tourism. In addition, she obtained an Associate Degree at S.E.A in Business Computer Technology. Ms. Roberts is a Certified Professional Life Coach and is the Founder & CEO of Affirmation of Change. Ms. Roberts desires to help others tap into their individuality and be the best that they know how to be.

Eager to rekindle her gift in spoken word poetry she began her own local poetry venue entitled lLLusions on March 14, 2009. ILLusions is a laid back atmosphere created to enlighten and inspire others through art expression, conducive for people from all walks of life to grace the stage with their God given talents.

Known as Chyna to the poetry community she has developed a name for herself in a seven year period. Recognized in several local newspapers ( Kinston Free Press, Sun Journal, Eagles News & More) and magazines (Our Success Magazine, Substantial Magazine, Poetic Flows Magazine & More). Ms. Roberts (Chyna) is leaving a lasting impression on audiences across the nation (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, California, Massachusetts, Texas, the DC area, London & More).

She is the proud 2011 C.O.U.P (Community Oriented Underground Poet) nominee of the National Underground Spoken Word & Poetry Awards. Recently, she was chosen by East Carolina University’s The Choose Art Project as an Up and Coming Artist and a Facilitator of the Arts. Currently, she is partnering with Friends of the Kinston-Lenoir Public Library and the Kinston Free Press Newspaper in Education Awareness hosting annual open mic events for Kinston’s youth as well as the community. She also lead an ongoing workshop for inner city youth at the G.A.T.E. for the course of four years called Refining Your Gifts. As a Motivational Speaker, she speaks at churches, libraries, conferences, military bases and more. She recently spoke and performed at Fort Bragg's Military Base to their Special Forces Division uplifting and inspiring through spoken word and motivational speaking.

She is the proud 2011 New & Up Coming Poet of the Year Nominee of the National Poetry Awards being held in Dallas, Texas. Her track, Element of Surprise was selected in 2012 to be played on the National Poetry Awards Soundtrack. She is the proud winner of the 2013 National Poetry Awards Haiku Contest.

Ms. Roberts has a passion for working with inner city youth and helping others become successful. She is a Former Board Member of StandUp~SpeakOut offering an extensive background in Youth Facilitation, Mental Health, Criminal Justice, Gang Prevention and Youth Project Development.

Ms. Roberts also enjoys acting, she starred in the play , For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf as Lady in Blue in April 2014 with Casting Director Khadijah Hall. Ms. Roberts enjoys acting and has performed in a series of plays and monologues.

Currently she hosts her very own poetry radio show called The Lyrical Cypher Radio Show which airs on Blog Talk Radio. Her radio show encourages metaphorically in-tuned visionaries to express themselves through the arts which has aired online for 2 1/2 years and running with a correspondence of 26,000 listeners to date.

Residing in Kinston, North Carolina with her two children 22 & 17, she enjoys family time, traveling, dancing, acting, shopping, funny jokes, painting, drawing and reading a good book.
