Coco Berthmann

Sex Trafficking Survivor; Advocate for Victims of Sex Trafficking

Born and raised in Germany, Coco spent the first 15 years of her life as a victim of familial trafficking. For the majority of her youth, she was trafficked, abused, and raped by different people, all coordinated by close family members. She escaped at age 15, and unfortunately, the abuse didn’t stop there. Shortly after her escape, the therapist she was seeing began abusing her.

Eventually, Coco escaped again and moved to the United States in 2015 where she fell in love, found a home, and is now a full-time student. Coco is now an aspiring international human rights lawyer and desires to continue the fight against human trafficking from the frontlines.

Coco has worked as Victim Advocate for Dahlias Hope, a non-profit Organization that focuses on the aftercare of sex-trafficking survivors. She has been the Program Director for Arise-Project for Humanity, which specializes in the counter child-trafficking efforts in Haiti and mentor vulnerable children, youth, and young adults to prevent child-trafficking in developing countries. Additionally, she is a Protection specialist with Adaptive Operations, a non-profit organization that focuses on the extraction and rescue of human-trafficking victims world wide.

Coco is active in supporting multiple NGOs which focus on helping refugees and ending human trafficking. She is the Founder and President of the Coco Berthmann Scholarship Fund, which exists to provide human-trafficking survivors with scholarships to higher education on an international level.
