Colonel John S. Kolasheski, is military fellow, U.S. Army, at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in New York. He most recently served as the brigade commander, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and Combined Task Force Warhorse, with duty in Kandahar City, Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom 11-12). Colonel Kolasheski's previous tours include Squadron Commander, 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, Georgia and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (06-08) in eastern Baghdad and Special Assistant to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Europe and 7th Army at Heidelberg, Germany. He has held a variety of operational assignments both in the United States and abroad.

He is a graduate of Bucknell University and holds an MA in engineering management and simulations/training systems design from the University of Central Florida and in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
