Counting Crows

American Rock Band

Counting Crows is an American rock band originating from Berkeley, California, formed in 1991.

From the beginning, Counting Crows focused on live performances.

The band's debut "album August and Everything After," produced by T-Bone Burnett, was released in late 1993. The first single, "Mr. Jones," was an unexpected hit song, drawing massive radio play and launching the band into stardom. The song reached #2 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks, Mainstream Rock Tracks and Top 40 Mainstream charts. “August and Everything After” became the fastest-selling album since Nirvana's “Nevermind.” The album sold 7 million copies and peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Their next album “Recovering the Satellites,” released on October 16, 1996, landed atop the Billboard 200 chart and is certified double platinum. The album produced the hit singles "Angels of the Silences" and "A Long December."

They followed on November 1, 1999 with “This Desert Life” which again reached platinum status and reached the #8 position on the Billboard 200 chart featuring the single “Hanginaround."

2002’s “Hard Candy” again did well on the Billboard 200 reaching #5 on the U.S. chart. The album features a hidden track cover version of the Joni Mitchell song “Big Yellow Taxi” featuring Vanessa Carlton. Ryan Adams, Sheryl Crow and Matthew Sweet also appear on the album.

“Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings” was released in the United States on March 25, 2008. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart, the band's highest peak since “Recovering the Satellites.”
