Cris Carter

ESPN Analyst, Former NFL Star Receiver & Pro Football Hall of Famer

One of the most illustrious pass catchers in NFL history, Cris Carter started his professional career in 1987 with the Philadelphia Eagles. In 1990 the Eagles put Carter on "waivers" (cutting him from the team) where he was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings for $100. Carter took the opportunity and ran with it. He overcame substance abuse, addiction, and personal/family problems to become one of the NFL's all-time greatest receivers. After a brief retirement, he signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2002.

Racking up some impressive statistics, Carter has made seven consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl. He is ranked second in NFL history for touchdown receptions, and he became only the second player in NFL history to catch over 1,000 passes in his career. (He trails Jerry Rice in both categories.)

Carter has also co-authored a book with his older brother (and former NBA coach) Butch Carter called Born To Believe (Full Wits Publishing) in which he discusses everything from "The Difference Between Ego & Self-Esteem" to "Being Scared" and "Racism." But Carter's most significant contributions continue to be made off the field -- through public speaking about drug awareness, through "Cris' CAUSE" (Christian Athletes United for Spiritual Empowerment), and through the Carter-White Charitable Foundation (formed with Atlanta Falcon William White), which sponsors numerous activities such as non-profit football camps for underprivileged kids and preparatory courses for high school students preparing for college entrance exams. He even became an ordained minister during the 1996 off-season. Clearly, Carter has left an indelible mark on the game of football, as well as on the lives of many of the people he has touched through his life.

In 2013, Carter was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Cris Carter has always had a dream of having a career in broadcasting since the end of his rewarding football career. Through perseverance he has accomplished that goal, having become an analyst on Fox Sports Net and ESPN. He has served as an analyst on Fox Sports Net's coverage of NFL Europe for three years. He has worked with ESPN as a studio analyst on their coverage of the previous three Super Bowls.
