Crosby Burns
Research Associate
Crosby Burns is a Research Associate for the LGBT Research and Communications Project at the Center for American Progress. Crosby has helped develop CAP’s strategic policy and communications agenda to advance equality and fairness for LGBT Americans through congressional and administrative action. Crosby has led CAP’s efforts to combat employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity by advocating for laws and policies that extend legal workplace protections to the gay and transgender workforce. While at CAP, Crosby has also documented discrepancies in the higher education financial aid system that impact applicants with same-sex parents as well as impact LGBT applicants themselves. Additionally, Crosby monitored the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal process to ensure a swift and efficient implementation of repeal. Prior to joining CAP, Crosby worked at the U.S. Department of Justice where he helped investigate mergers and acquisitions in the telecommunications and media markets. Crosby holds a B.A. in political science and psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. He will be attending Harvard University in the fall of 2013 where he will be pursuing his master’s in public policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. His work has been covered in The New York Times, The Hill, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Education, and the Harvard Kennedy School’s LGBTQ Policy Journal.
