Crystal Bowersox

Runner-Up on Season 9 of American Idol; Type 1 Diabetes Advocate

Crystal Lynn Bowersox is an American singer-songwriter who is best known as the runner up from the ninth season of American Idol. Though she lost to singer Lee DeWyze, Bowersox still made history on American Idol as the first contestant to have an original song played on the show.

Following her time in the competition, Bowersox returned to the studio, releasing her debut album, "Farmer's Daughter," on December 14, 2010, with Jive Records, and her second album, "All That for This," in 2012, with Shanachie Records.

Most recently, Bowersox released a self-produced album, entitled "Alive," in 2017.

Bowersox has drawn upon various influences — across folk-pop, classic rock, soul, blues and country — and plays with opposing artistic styles and genres to make the kind of music that resonates with her spirit. She has also publicized that her music is intended to bring a positive message of love and light to the world.

Diagnosed at age four, Bowersox has lived with Type 1 Diabetes her entire life and has used her music platform to advocate and inspire others living with the same disease. In 2016, Bowersox was named as a spokesperson for Lilly Diabetes, a global insulin creation and distribution company.
