Emmy-winning Actress, Political Activist, LGBTQ Advocate

Cynthia Nixon is an actress and activist renowned for her role as Miranda Hobbes in HBO's "Sex and the City," which earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2004. Nixon's acting career spans over four decades, beginning with her film debut at age 12 in "Little Darlings" and her Broadway debut at age 14 in "The Philadelphia Story." Over the years, she has appeared in over 40 plays, including a dozen on Broadway, and earned additional acclaim for her portrayal of poet Emily Dickinson in the film "A Quiet Passion."

Following the conclusion of "Sex and the City," Nixon continued to demonstrate her versatility with guest appearances on shows like "Law & Order: SVU," "House," and "ER," as well as in the film "The Babysitters," which premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival. She reprised her role as Miranda in both "Sex and the City" movies. Nixon's stage work includes memorable performances in "The Women," broadcast on PBS's Stage to Screen series, "Indiscretions," for which she received a Tony nomination, and Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues." She is also a founding member of The Drama Dept., participating in several productions including "The Country Club" and "June Moon."

Nixon's commitment extends beyond acting to active political and social engagement. She ran for Governor of New York State in 2018, advocating for racial, economic, and gender equality. A staunch supporter of public education, abortion rights, and LGBTQ equality, Nixon has used her platform to champion these causes. She is currently involved in the production of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series "Ratched."

In her personal life, Nixon, who identifies as bisexual, is married to education activist Christine Marinoni. Nixon is also a breast cancer survivor and an advocate for breast cancer awareness. Her involvement in diverse social and political issues, along with a prolific acting career, underscores her dedication to both her craft and her community.
