Actress Known for her Role as Miranda Hobbes on HBO's "Sex and the City"; Former Candidate for Governor of New York

Cynthia Nixon is an actress and activist known for portraying tenacious lawyer Miranda Hobbes in HBO's celebrated series, "Sex and the City," a role that garnered her Emmy nominations and the 2004 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Since "Sex and the City" wrapped, Nixon has guest starred on "Law & Order: SVU," "House," and "ER" and acted opposite John Leguizamo in The Babysitters, which premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival. She also famously reprised her role as Miranda in both of the Sex and the City movies.

She is a part of the 2021 Forbes Power Women's Summit.

Nixon is known for her superb characterizations in diverse roles. She has been commended for her performance as Mary Haines in The Roundabout's revival of "The Women," which was broadcast on PBS's Stage to Screen series. She received a Tony nomination for her role in the Broadway hit "Indiscretions" as Madeleine, the vivacious bohemian Parisian bookbinder who had simultaneous affairs with a quirky inventor and his son. Nixon also appeared in Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" at both the Westside Arts Theater and in the historic Valentine's Day performance at Madison Square Garden. As one of the founding members of the theater company The Drama Dept., Nixon has appeared in productions of "The Country Club," "June Moon," "Kingdom of Earth," and "As Bees in Honey Drown."

In addition to her work as an actress, Nixon is also involved in politics. In 2018, she ran on a progressive platform for governor of New York State against incumbent Andrew Cuomo. Nixon is a long-time supporter of public education and she also has a history of advocacy for women's health.

Nixon is also a breast cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in 2006 during a routine mammogram. Initially, Nixon chose not to go public with the diagnosis with the fear that it might hurt her career. However, in April of 2008, Nixon revealed her battle with breast cancer on "Good Morning America." Since then, Nixon has become a breast cancer activist, becoming an ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Nixon, who identifies as bisexual, married education activist Christine Marinoni in May 2012.

Having appeared in dozens of plays, television shows, and movies, Nixon is recognized within the acting industry as a woman who has the courage and ability to conquer any role. A true inspiration for young people everywhere, she has proven that if you work hard, no goal is unattainable.
