Damiano is a PhD Student in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Research Assistant at the LSE Sustainable Finance Project, where he focuses on the relationship between financial activities and human rights protection.

Damiano is also Coordinator of “Imprese e Diritti Umani in Italia” (“Business and Human Rights in Italy”), a research project supported by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. The project advises the Italian government on the adoption of the National Action Plan to implement the United Nations (UN) Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Damiano was the main organiser of a one-day Research Workshop on business and human rights at the London School of Economics (http://tinyurl.com/ccb3mxl) and will convene (1) two panels on business and human rights at the 2013 International Studies Association’s Annual Convention, (2) an entire Section on business and human rights at the 2013 Annual Conference of the European Consortium of Political Research, and (3) a 2nd edition of the Research Workshop on Business and Human Rights, on 1 October 2013 at Cumberland Lodge (Dr Michael Addo, member of the UN Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises, is supporting the event and plans to present its final report at next UN Annual Forum on Business and Human Rights, to be held in Geneva in late 2013).

In the recent past, Damiano was co-editor of Millennium: Journal of International Studies (which has recently been voted as one of the world’s most influential journals in International Relations) and acted as a consultant on human rights issues for UniCredit, one of Italian largest banks.
