Author of "Black Man in a White Coat, A Doctor's Reflections on Race and Medicine"

Damon Tweedy, MD is a professor of psychiatry at Duke University School of Medicine and a staff psychiatrist within the Durham Veteran Affairs Health Care System where he co-leads an integrated primary care-mental health team. He has written extensively about the intersection of race, medicine, and mental health, both in academic journals and popular print publications. His 2015 book, "Black Man in a White Coat: A Doctor's Reflections on Race and Medicine," made the New York Times bestseller list and was selected by TIME magazine as a top non-fiction book that year.

Dr. Tweedy travels frequently to speak to physicians and clinicians, healthcare companies, medical schools and teaching hospitals, and other organizations involved in health and wellness, about the impact of race on the medical profession at all levels. His writing has been featured in publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and Discover Magazine. He also served as non-fiction editor of the Bellevue Literary Review. His latest book, "Facing the Unseen," calls to center psychiatry and mental health care into the mainstream of medicine.

Dr. Tweedy is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine and Yale Law School. He completed both his medical internship and psychiatry residency at Duke Hospital.
