Former College QB Sentenced to Life in Prison; Now A Motivational Speaker & Author

Damon West is a former Division I college football quarterback for the University of North Texas. When his college football career ended due to an injury, West lost all direction and his existing dependencies on drugs spiraled out of control.

In addition to the alcohol and marijuana he had already been abusing, West started using cocaine, ecstasy and prescription drugs. A few years later, working on Wall Street, West was introduced to methamphetamine. It was downhill from there, and he committed property crimes and drug crimes that led to his eventual arrest and being sentenced to 65 years in prison.

He left prison with 58 years of parole ahead of him. Today, West enjoys the opportunity to speak with students and athletes about the dangers of drugs, addiction and bad choices. West has found his calling in telling others his cautionary, yet inspiring, tale.
